…who set up Mumsnet in 2000 in response to an extremely frustrating holiday as a parent and seeing an unmet need for better sharing of honest advice. She created the community literally from nothing and then grew it after the internet bubble burst with almost no resources. But as a result she learned a great deal about how to make the idea for real – for example making it work genuinely well for all involved even when emotions run high. It took off to the extent it started influencing general elections, but perhaps the biggest challenge and achievement has been making it sustainable commercially without compromising on the customer-led ethos that keeps people happily using and trusting the brand, an outcome requiring yet more innovation.
